my boyfri got me one today but I'm not sure if I should open it or return it and wait for the new one. I want to play Pokemon but since it doesnt have gps im not sure if it's gonna work.

I would have thought it would work but you would need your phone nearby for the gps the newer watches will have the gps built in
That's up to Niantic to decide. They either could allow it on Series 1, but you would need to have your phone nearby for GPS detection, or they could just leave it out so there won't be these problems. I myself hope they do put it on Series 1, since I have one myself 😝

There's no mention of Series 2, GPS, or anything that makes it seem like the new model would be required. Guess we'll find out when the app comes out...
